In short

Check your Emirates ID validity and application status online through the ICP website (icp.gov.ae) or the UAEICP app — enter your PRAN (application number), Emirates ID number or passport number. Validity is tied to your residency visa; if it shows expired, renew promptly to avoid late fines and service disruption.

Why check your Emirates ID status?

An Emirates ID is essential for daily life in the UAE — and it's issued when your residency visa is stamped, staying valid for the visa's duration. Checking its status is worth doing after returning from abroad, before renewals, or any time you're unsure of your expiry date — it helps you avoid lapses that can interrupt banking, government services and more.

How to check your Emirates ID status online

Go to the ICP website (icp.gov.ae) or open the UAEICP smart application
Find the “ID Card Status” / “Check ID status” service
Enter your application number (PRAN), Emirates ID number (without hyphens), or passport number
Submit — your current application and validity status is displayed instantly

What each status label means

When you check, you'll see one of these standard statuses — here's what each tells you:

Under process

Your application has been received and is being reviewed — biometrics may still be pending.

Biometrics required

You need to visit an approved centre for fingerprint & photo registration — this can't be skipped.

Approved / printing

Your application is approved and the card is being printed.

In transit

Your card has been dispatched for delivery.

Ready for collection

Your card is ready — collect it (often from Emirates Post) per the SMS you receive.

Expired

Your Emirates ID validity has ended — begin renewal promptly to avoid fines & service disruption.

Cancelled

The card has been cancelled in the system — typically due to visa cancellation or leaving the UAE.

Validity & renewal

Your Emirates ID's validity is tied to your residency visa (typically up to 5 years, minimum around 1 year for residents). Once it expires there's usually a short grace period to renew before late fees apply — so it pays to renew early, ideally before the card expires.

Please note

Renewal grace periods, late-fee amounts and the exact online steps are set by the ICP and can change over time. Always confirm the current fees, grace period and process on the official ICP portal (icp.gov.ae) for your specific case.

It varies with your visa status — typically up to 5 years, with a minimum of around 1 year for residents. Your Emirates ID validity is tied to your residency visa.

Check the expiry date printed on the card, or use the ICP online status check to confirm whether it's active, expired or needs renewal.

It's considered expired on the expiry date. There's generally a grace period to renew before late fees apply — renew promptly to avoid penalties and service disruption.

Late renewal can attract fines, and an expired ID can cause difficulties with official transactions, banking and access to certain services until it's renewed.

Verification can fail due to incorrect details entered, technical issues, or discrepancies between what you entered and official records — double-check your PRAN/ID number and try again.

It indicates the current stage of your card — for example under process, biometrics required, approved/printing, in transit, ready for collection, expired or cancelled.
